Developmental Pre-School Program
The Little Red Schoolhouse provides a learner-centered, educationally based program for each of our age groups. The children have abundant opportunities for active, hands-on experiential learning. Our teachers are loving, caring and knowledgeable and they are keenly aware of the potential that pre-school children possess and we have planned our programs accordingly.
The Busy Bee Room
Children need to be 2 years old by December 1st to participate in this program. Children develop many skills at this age by interacting with the teachers and the other children.
Playing games, listening to stories, singing songs and participating in art projects help develop language skills, as well as movement and sensory motor skills. Sharing and caring are also important developmental skills to be learned at this age.
The Teddy Bear Room
Children need to be 3 years old by December 1st to participate in this program. Play is an important teacher for each age group including this one. We build on the skills that the children have developed in our Busy Bee Program. In addition, we introduce cutting, math concepts and an awareness of phonics.
The children will learn about comparisons, sequencing, categorizing, matching and making connections based on previous learning. All of the above learning is accomplished in a fun, friendly and age appropriate manner.
The Toy Train Room
Children need to be 4 years old by December 1st to participate in this program. Our program uses a multi-sensory approach and everything is child-centered in an engaging, language rich environment.
We incorporate learning that focuses on developing early literacy and pre-writing skills. Our pre-academic skills are aligned with the New York State standards.
These skills include the following:

Language and Literacy: Activities that develop reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Social/Emotional Development: Activities that foster inter- action with others.

Physical Skills: Activities that promote fine and gross motor development.

Mathematical Concepts: Activities that promote basic numeracy and beginning problem solving.
